CAPE TOWN - Western Cape authorities on Wednesday said arson was not suspected to be the cause of a Mitchells Plain fire.

At the same time, rescue officials said only one section of the Mitchells Plain hospital building was damaged in the blaze.

The multi-million rand construction project is adjacent to the existing Lenteguer Hospital.

Fire and Rescue spokesperson Theo Layne said, “The fire started in the ceiling area of the new section that they are busy building. We are still trying to determine the cause of the fire. The team of investigators are on scene.”

Meanwhile, construction workers were sent home early and it remains to be seen when they will return to work.

Nobody was injured in the blaze.
