It seems Pietermaritzburg residents have been experiencing all four seasons this morning.
Nokulunga Nzimande - who lives in the city centre - says she woke up to cloudy skies. Then the rain bucketed down just after 7am this morning, followed by a short but strong hailstorm - leaving the ground covered in hail about the size of golf balls.
"The weather in Pietermaritzburg this morning was pretty hectic, it was rush-hour and out of the blue we had this hail," she said.
Meanwhile, Karkloof and Howick residents reported a massive hail storm and heavy rain last night.
There is a 30 percent chance of rain over much of the province today, with storms expected this afternoon. In Durban temperatures are expected to peak at 23 degrees, while it will be a cool 14 degrees in the berg.
