Man crushed by Archimedes Screw in Krugersdorp grain silo

A man is fighting for his life in the Netcare Krugersdorp Hospital after he was crushed in a grain silo by an Archimedes Screw at a plant in Burgershoop, Krugersdorp, this afternoon.

The cause of the incident and the series of events preceding it remain uncertain and will form the subject of an internal investigation.

Common cause information suggests that the man had been inside the grain silo cleaning the screw when he was drawn into the mechanism. He sustained severe lower limb crush trauma and his colleagues immediately called 082 911.

Netcare911 Paramedics arrived at the scene to find the twenty three-year-old worker fighting for his life. He was stabilised at the scene and transported by ambulance to the private medical facility for further lifesaving care.
