JOHANNESBURG - The mother of three boys who died in a fire at their Soweto home last week has reportedly also passed away.
Her partner was accused of setting their Zola home alight on Wednesday with the family locked inside.
The boys burned to death, while the father died a day later in hospital from burn wounds.
“It was our hope to really establish what actually transpired,” said police spokesperson Kay Makhubele.
“But as she has passed on, we will only have the forensic report which will help us in our investigation."
The fire that claimed the lives of the family was, according to police, “no accident”.
Their children's father allegedly doused their family home with petrol after a domestic fight on Tuesday night, which a neighbour said she had overheard.
Neighbours said they saw the blaze, broke down the door and tried to extinguish the fire.
A burial date for Philane (10), Zanele (8) and Mpumi Radebe (3) has yet to be confirmed.
