The frantic search for two Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife rangers, who went missing three days ago, continues today on Lake Nhlabane.
The field rangers were part of a group of four who were patrolling the Enseleni Nature Reserve, near Richards Bay, on foot on Friday afternoon.
Ezemvelo's Musa Mntambo says the men spotted a canoe and four gill nets in the lake that weren't supposed to be there.
The rangers wanted to confiscate the items but because the canoe was too heavy to be carried, two of the men opted to paddle it towards the car park area.
The other two team members walked to the parking area.
Mntambo says the missing men never made it to the car park.
He says they have been working with emergency personnel throughout the weekend to try find them.
He says they believe the rangers are still alive.
"We only found a canoe paddle," he said. "We don't know what might have happened."
