The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

9 Persons rescued from snow in Beaufort-West
The City’s disaster response teams whilst on-board the SA Defence Force helicopter earlier this morning rescued 7 men from Matjiesfontein.
Two other boys aged 15 and 19 from Eerste River that was also visiting the farm has been rescued and will be transported by the City’s crew back to Cape Town.
The SA Defence Force will continue to search for persons in distress and have its military aircrafts airborne in the affected areas.
The City’s disaster response will continue providing logistics and planning support in the spirit of cooperative governance to the local authorities in the Central Karoo District.
Donations are welcomed
An information hotline has been established and members of the public who want to contribute to the disaster relief operations can contact the City’s Disaster Risk Management Centre on Tel: 021 597 6004.
The following goods are essential supplies that can assist the victims in the affected areas:
· emergency food rations
· fresh or tinned food
· wood
· paraffin
· blankets
· assistance with the transportation of donated goods
These children and families are in desperate need and an appeal is made to civil society to generously assist.
Donations can be delivered to the City’s Disaster Risk Management Centre at the Goodwood Fire Station, c/o Frans Conradie & Hugo Street, Goodwood.
