The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

Disaster teams due to uplift newly born baby on snowy mountains
The disaster response teams deployed in the Central Karoo is due to effect a rescue operation of a newly born baby on the snowy mountains near Matjiesfontein.
The paramedics are due to be airborne within the next 30 minutes with the military helicopter to recover the baby and its mother.
The mother and child will be taken to the Beaufort-West Hospital where a medical practitioner will examination the condition of the patients and provide the necessary treatment.
The baby was born late on Saturday, 14 July 2012 and the gender is unknown.
