Kaapstad – JP Smith, burgemeesterskomiteelid vir veiligheid en sekuriteit, het gesê rampbestuurspanne van Kaapstad het hul reddingsoperasies in die sentraal-Karoo opgeskort nadat die toestande na normaal teruggekeer het, berig RSG.
Sowat 120 mense, insluitend 'n ma en haar pasgebore baba, was nog op sewe plase vasgekeer ná die naweek se swaar sneeu. Hulle is almal met 'n helikopter gered.
Smith het gesê die stad se rampbestuursentrum is goed toegerus en indien daar verdere versoeke om hulp deur die provinsiale regering is, sal die sentrum weer hulp aan ander munisipaliteite verleen.
Intussen het drie mense die afgelope naweek weens hipotermie in die Klein Karoo gesterf, het Anton Bredell, provinsiale minister van plaaslike regering, ontwikkelingsbestuur en omgewingsake, gesê.
