Kwazulu Natal: Man electrocuted fixing power lines

An Eskom contract worker has died after being electrocuted in the Nottingham Road area in the Midlands today.

It's believed he was repairing power lines on Holly Farm this morning when he was electrocuted.

ER24's Derrick Banks says when they arrived on scene they found the man lying on the road near power cables.

He says police and medics first had to establish whether the scene was safe for emergency services to approach the man before they could examine him.

"He had sustained very traumatic injuries and was unfortunately declared dead on scene. The local SAPS will be investigating further," he said.

Meanwhile, a statement issued by Eskom confirmed that the man had worked for a company that was contracted by the national electricity supplier.

"The incident is under investigation and currently no further details are available," Eskom said in a statement.
