The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

Kwazulu Natal: Roads affected by heavy rain
The heavy rain has been wreaking havoc on KZN roads. Here's a list of the roads that have been closed or affected due to the downpour.
Flooding:
The municipality says while no roads are completely closed in Durban, many have been flooded. Drive carefully.
- M13 both directions flooding between St Johns and Richmond Roads. Down to one lane. Expect long delays.
- Flooding on Rick Turner Road (Francois) between UKZN'S Gate 6 at the Old Mutual Sports Hall and Bellair Road.
- N11 between Vosloorus and Newcastle is almost impassable because of the rain and roadworks.
- In Ladysmith, Forbes and Lyell Streets are submerged.
From yesterday:
- On the N2 at the old airport Durban-bound, there's a report of flooding. There's a partial lane closure.
- Durban Metro Police say two lanes of the N3 eastbound just before Tollgate Bridge have been closed due to flooding.
- A section of the M4 Ruth First Highway near the Sibaya off-ramp has become severely waterlogged.
- Huge puddle reported on the M13, near the Crompton Street Bridge.
- Reports of a big pothole on Manning Road, on the southbound side, near Bulwer Park.
- Sarnia Road coming from Malvern towards Hillary there is a nasty pothole where the road has washed away
- Reports of flooding on the M13 just past the M7 bridge
- General flooding on the M13, the N2 near the old airport and on the N2 between M41 and Queen Nandi Drive
