JOHANNESBURG - One man has died in a shack fire at the Marathon Informal Settlement in Germiston, Johannesburg, on Sunday.
His two siblings escaped the blaze unharmed.
Spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni Disaster and Management Services, William Ntladi, says it is unclear what caused the deadly fire.
Residents had extinguished most of the fire, using water-filled buckets, by the time firefighters arrived at the scene.
Surrounding shacks were not affected.
An inquest docket into the blaze was opened and investigations are underway to determine what sparked the fire, said Ntladi.
