Heytt family of Wales [UK] express thanks to Cape Town for assistance after boat disaster
The City received a letter of thanks for the Hyett family that lost their husband and father during the Hout Bay Boat disaster on Saturday 13 October 2012.
The wife [Suzanne Linda Hyett] and daughter [Helen Hyett] expressed their gratitude to the City’s Disaster Risk Management Centre and Cape Town Tourism for arranging accommodation and amended flight schedules during this time of crisis and bereavement.
They also thanked the fishermen and rescue teams that initially responded rescuing them after the sightseeing boat capsized offshore near Hout Bay.
Below find the letter sent by the Hyett family:
We would like to thank all of the teams at Hout Bay, who were involved in our rescue on Saturday, special thanks to the fisherman who pulled us from the water. We will always remember the relief we felt as you swam towards us and took control of the situation, thank you thank you. We would also like to thank the South African disaster team who have supported us throughout and still support us until we can return home. We would like to thank all the medics and rescuers who tried to save Peter. We will always remember your kindness. Thanks also go to a very special lady who owns the guest house we have stayed at, she has been amazing and a huge support. We will always remember the South Africans for their kindness.
We are devastated at the loss of Peter, a wonderful husband, father, brother and grandfather, all who knew him loved him.”
