The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

JOC centre activated in Nelson Mandela Bay
Heavy overnight rain in Nelson Mandela Bay prompted the activation of the Joint Operations Centre.
A number of roads were closed on Wednesday night because of localised flooding and fallen trees.
Scores of people were evacuated from low-lying areas and rescue officials were summoned to assist motorists trapped in their vehicles.
Metro spokesperson Kupido Baron told AlgoaFM news that residents had been evacuated from low lying areas in Greenbushes, Kwanobuhle and Mowvalley and Daleview in Despatch.
The N2 between Van Stadens and Blue Horizon bay is flooded after a farm dam burst its banks and the Seaview road is also flooded.
The R67 between Bathurst and Port Alfred has also been completely flooded.
