The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

Man falls from platform onto train tracks
It is not clear as to whether the man was trying to board a train, or as to whether he simply fell, but paramedics were called to Park Station Platform 5 in Johannesburg where a man had fallen onto the tracks below.
The 26 year old was found lying on the tracks, having suffered severe trauma to his head. He was bleeding and was in a critical condition. The provincial service paramedics were already treating the man, and the teams then worked together to get him stabilised, onto a backboard and stretcher so that he could be moved to the ambulance for transport to hospital.
Once inside the ambulance he was treated further for the significant injuries that he had sustained, and was then taken to Charlotte Maxeke Hospital.
