The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

Satellite Images - Tropical Low Pressure System: Namibia/Botswana (17 January 2013)
Images: University of Dundee (UK) Click on images for larger view.
The above images reflect the current tropical low pressure system over Namibia/Botswana. Not uncommon in Botswana or Namibia. A few years back I observed two such systems but fortunately they did not effect the weather adversely in SA. The one system "sat" over Botswana and parts of Namibia for several days, causing severe flooding. We definitely need to keep an eye on the current system for further development.
