45 kids taken to hospital after bee attack

Cape Town - Forty-eight children were stung by a swarm of bees on a school playground in Tembisa, paramedics said on Thursday.

The children, aged between 2 and 7, were stung at about 08:30.

“Some children had two or three stings, but 45 out of the 48 that were stung were taken to hospital” said ER24’s Vanessa Jackson.

It was believed the attack happened after a beehive had been disturbed.

The children were assessed by emergency services soon after the incident. “I doubt any of the children will be admitted to hospital,” said Jackson.

There were no reports of any of the children being allergic to bee stings.
