49 Year Old Seriously Injured after Seizure - Airlifted.

HEILBRON – A 49 year old man is in a serious condition after he allegedly had seizures at his place of work in Heilbron.

It is understood that the man collapsed at work and had a seizure after he hit his head. The man’s wife explained that co-workers contacted her to inform her of what had happened. The wife explained that her husband is a known epileptic and usually he would go home and relax after an episode of seizures.

Shortly after 13:00 this afternoon the ER24 Medicopter was called to the man’s residence when his wife could not wake him up. Paramedics on the scene established that the man might have suffered serious head trauma when he hit his head. Advanced Life Support treatment was initiated on the scene and the man was airlifted to a Johannesburg Hospital for specialist care.

The ER24 Medicopter received special permission from the Headmaster of Heilbron High School to land the helicopter on their rugby field near the man’s house. By the time the Medicopter approached, the field was cleared by students from the school who was busy practicing.

ER24 would like to advise members of the public to treat any type of head injury serious until it can be ruled otherwise by a qualified medical practitioner. In certain circumstances severe head trauma may lead to a slow bleed in the brain which can have adverse results presenting only a few hours later.

If you or someone sustained a blow to the head look out for any signs of, vomiting or blood flowing from the nose or ears. Symptoms can include severe headaches, nausea, blurred vision and slurred speech.

Should any of these signs be present, it is advised that you call ER24 on 084124 immediately for telephonic medical advice or dispatch of an ambulance.
